built-in lan problem

The followings are the key sentence of my rc.log:

Configure LAN interfaces
Output from "/sbin/rc2.d/S008net.sd start":
----------------------------
ERROR: LAN1 interface: ifconfig: no such interface
"/sbin/rc2.d/S008net.sd start" FAILED

Configure LAN interfaces
Output from "/sbin/rc2.d/S340net start":
----------------------------
ERROR: LAN1 interface: ifconfig: no such interface
"/sbin/rc2.d/S340net start" FAILED

The following is the lan setting of my unix box:

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
===================================================================
lan 0 10/12/6 lan2 CLAIMED INTERFACE Built-in LAN
/dev/diag/lan0 /dev/ether0 /dev/lan0

What i want to ask is why the system checking the device which doesn't exist in my box, perhaps the box has such a external lan car
installed in previous, but now it does not have
it. Hope for expert to answer it, i also attach my "swagentd" file which indicate my incomplete installation of
HP patch PHCO_19798, i'd be appreciated if any
expert answer it, thanks

Re: built-in lan problem

In your /etc/rc.config.d/hpbase100conf file is there a reference to an interface called lan1?

If so, then modify the file so that it only has configuration info for lan0.

Re: built-in lan problem

What is the history of the system. It does appear that at some point it had 2 LAN cards installed and by default it was configured to use lan1. Try looking at /etc/rc.config.d/netconf to see what interface is being used if lan1 try changing to lan0 (make a copy of the original just in case). Alternatively try running /sbin/setp_parms initial to reconfigure the entire network setup.

Hi
Further to John's suggestion of altering the netconf file, when you make a copy of the netconf file do not save it in the same dir as it is possible for the system to read a copy instead of the correct file.

Re: built-in lan problem

lan0 (builtin 10baseT card) seems to be the only card they system recognizes, so I agree; ensure in your /etc/rc.config.d/netconf, there is no reference to a lan1.
