business customer discussion groups and points?

Why is there a separate group for this that has its own completely different set of points?

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Interesting, it looks like this is for "business partners" of HP as opposed to any joe blow of the street. I may be wrong. The light bulb thing is kinda cool, although the hats are much more dignified.

Just my take,

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

notice also how it takes less points to get a lightbulb as opposed to a hat. Hmmm, I'm not sure what exactly that means.

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Well seems they have their own thing going. And there is not that much action going on over there. On business customer discussion groups > desktops and workstations > workstations - visualize and hp9000
the top memeber has only 39 points!
http://bizforums.itrc.hp.com/cm/CategoryHome/1,,406,00.html so that would be a reason why the lightbulbs require low points.

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Hi John,

I wonder about that myself. You can get to those forums from the ITRC forums page. It's listed at the bottom as "discussion groups for other hp products". Go figure.

Thought I'd see if I could participate so I posted a reply. It let me. Whoopee! (translated for you young'us means "woo hoo!")

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

You would think that since it is all HP products, that there would be a standard point system on the ITRC.

Does this also mean that there will be more totally separate point systems in the future?

It does seem like very few of the questions on "that other forum" are actually awarded points.

Sometimes you just have to ask "why" when something looks to be very strange.

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Hmmm interesting....

I don't beleive this is part of the ITRC however. I think it is something the average Joe Shmoe can use. These may be people who have purchased an HP product but who don't have a support contract that allows them access to ITRC.

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Hi John,

As the Online Community strategist for HP, I'd like to try and help explain our method to the madness.

The Business Customer Discussion group is part of an esupport activity targeted at Business Customers (http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/index.jsp ) We use the same forums infrastructure and experience across both of these, but when it came to user status, we realized that we would potentially have 2 different types of users using the different forums. We wanted to provide different status for different customer types.... since an expert in providing support to a business professional might not be a recognized IT Professional expert and vice versa. However, we alo wanted to make sure that someone's commnity identity across hp trascended whichever community they were supporting, so that's why if you look at someone's idetity (ie: profile page), you see the combination of points earned in both the Business Customer Discussion groups as well as the ITRC. That way you can see the totality of someone's expertise, whether they erned points helping business customers or IT Professionals, or both.

Agreed, the light bulbs for status are cool, but I personally still like the hats better... you know, its always harder to come up with 2 great ideas in a row.. :-)

Hope that helps explain, our thinking behind how to organize communities of purpose for different cutomer audiences.

Best regards-
Jeff

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Hi,

i am wondering, is it my browser or is it the page?... i can't get a scroll bar [the page doesnt fit in a window] on this other forum, but on this forum [itrc; the one we're using now] i can see a scroll bar, that way i can view the page no matter how lon it is...

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Hi John & Richard...

You're right, points do seem to be handed out a lot less on the business discussion groups... I personally think that more people there are getting their answer and not coming back, hence less points get awarded... different mindsets from different users I guess...

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Hi john,

Thanks for the link. As a test, i posted a response to a question there; The response has been added to my profile page, so i guess the points from those groups accumulate into one's
account. Only difference is the Crowns/Hats/caps etc do not show up there , since it is a bulb world. Wonder whether anybody has a trophy from both the forums!

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Hi Rajman,

Kathy Brockway's closest to a crown & a bulb, and I'm just about up for a Graduate cap & a bulb... I think we're the two closest to having something in both groups...

Cheers,
Stuart

Re: business customer discussion groups and points?

Found the answer!!!

The other forum is available to every person who wants to set up an account. Mainly for those who have purchased HP computers, printers, and cameras.

There is one person who has set up several accounts and is giving points to each of his instances. 900+ points in just a few days on one account.

Getting legitimate points is much more satisfying than giving yourself points.

John, that scum bag "Vorkon", aka "Robert Paulsen", aka (possibly) "instantsupportguru". Split personality complex, bordering on psychotic schizophrenic syndrome!

Here are the wacko's point boosting posts:

As I said before, let them stay over there in the "Business" section, because the last thing we want over here is a spamming moron.

Yup, been there, seen that, it was whom I was referring to, but did not name names.

He has been reported and I am sure his accounts will not survive long.

The HP censorship posting policy will take care of him.
