we have a C100 running HP-UX 10.20 and we want to move its contents to a C360.
I have created a make recovery tape using make_recovery -Av which made a backup of its only volume group vg00.
After the installation of the recovery_tape on the C360 I get "Could not make an interactive kernel" then something about giving a interactive shell and try to fix the problem or build a kernel and put it in /stand/vmunix.
I saw no /stand/vmunix so I tried copying /stand/vmunix.prev to /stand/vmunix after which I rebooted.
Unfortunately a reboot fails as the kernel appears to be wrong.
What can I do about this ? Is the hardware totally different between these two ?
Best regards,
Jeroen.

Re: C100 to C360 recovery tape kernel failed?
The first thing I would do is to download the latest version of Ignite from here:
http://www.software.hp.com/products/IUX/index.html
Then use the make_tape_recovery command and try again. Older versions did not handle different platforms well.

SolutionYes hardware is really differents from C100 to C360. I don't remenber exactly, but I'm pretty sure that it is around PCI driver. I don't know much about workstation, but I remember also that for C360 you need some patches (Hardware Enablement Patche). So before doing you make_recovery, you should also install this patches (ACE bundle if I remember well). And then, you should also add in your current kernel all drivers needed for the C360, and it should be ok. Be sure also to use a not too old ignite version. Before 3.X version cloning to different hardware wasn't supported at all. Now it is supported with 3.6 and 4.X (but still some trouble with really different hardware).
Cheers.

Re: C100 to C360 recovery tape kernel failed?
I was using the 2.5 version which always worked for me before but then again I never tried cross-platform recovering.
I have download this 3.7.95 version.
I am wondering about the required C360 patches...how can I find them on the ACE CD ? How will I know which one I need ?
TIA,
Jeroen.

Re: C100 to C360 recovery tape kernel failed?
the problem is that the C100 has a failing disk. The system has halted 3 times yesterdaymorning. There are no indications in the syslog-file. I suspect a failing disk.
I do not dare to install new software as this may completely crash the system.
I will try to use the ignite-tape on a C160 station. I hope this hardware does not differ too much either...
Best regards,
Jeroen.
