we have a C180 that has crashed twice yesterday and again today.
I have checked the syslog and OLDsyslog file and typed dmesg but there does not seem to be anything wrong.
I thought I would find some SCSI bus reset error but no.
In the /var/adm/crash I found an index file in a core.0 directory :
comment savecore core dump INDEX file
hostname hpc180-1
modelname 9000/780/C180
panic reactivate: cannot bring in U area

Does anyone know what this means ?
Thanks in advance. I think that a software crash should not reboot a machine but maybe I am wrong ?
Best regards,
Jeroen.

dd if=/dev/rdsk/c0t6d0 of=/dev/null bs=256k
Be prepared to replace the disk.
Best regards...

Re: C180 crashes and reboots suddenly
This indicates the probability of a failing disc area, where you have assigned swap space.
What does your /etc/shutdownlog show for hte last few entries?
What are you asssinging for swap, i.e. what is in your /etc/fstab, other han primary swap?

Re: C180 crashes and reboots suddenly
in the /etc/shutdownlog :
shutdownlog :
10:01 Mon Jan 20 2003. Reboot after panic: reactivate: cannot bring in U area
17:02 Wed Jan 22 2003. Reboot after panic: reactivate: cannot bring in U area
17:08 Tue Jan 28 2003. Reboot after panic: vfdswapi: syncpageio detected an error
13:56 Wed Jan 29 2003. Reboot after panic: vfdswapo: syncpageio detected error
10:58 Thu Jan 30 2003. Reboot after panic: reactivate: cannot bring in U area
12:40 Thu Jan 30 2003. Reboot after panic: vfdswapo: syncpageio detected error
=> I'll call HP support to check the warranty and support contract on this C180 station. Guess this puppy has had it.
Thanks for the help !
Regards,
Jeroen.
