Can a WORM disk be copied?
I imagine this can't be done but, is there a way to copy the data on one WORM disk to another WORM disk. We are using Filenet software to write to the WORM disks, and are looking for a way to make a copy that can be sent off-site daily. Unforunately Filenet's solution to this is very costly.
Any ideas?

Re: Can a WORM disk be copied?
I'd look into the dd command.
More likely you can copy the data to a regular disk and then copy it using the worm utility for hpux to the blank worm drive.

Re: Can a WORM disk be copied?
Can you give me a little more information. I've looked into dd going from one WORM to another which I couldn't get to work. If I use dd to copy to a standard disk how do I copy it to the blank WORM? What is the HP-UX WORM utility you speak of?
Thanks,
Jason

Re: Can a WORM disk be copied?
With plasmon?
WORM = Write Once Read Many.
I need more information about the sizes of data. We had a DR site for filenet on plasmon drives with two issues: The device file names changing during reinstalls and the Filenet file format.
The good thing is WORM is 90% reading of data and 10% writes. So duplicate the entire database once and sync it up occaisionally with the small changes that take place.

Re: Can a WORM disk be copied?
We are using 5.2 gig 5 1/4" opticals, an HP SureStore 1200EX. It currently takes us about 2 weeks to fill up a Filenet tranlog. Meaning we can't send it off-site for this period, opening ourselves up to a possible loss of 2 weeks of data in a disaster. We are trying to find a way to do a copy of the current tranlog daily to send off-site. We would do this on re-writable media, where the actual tranlog would be on WORM. Filenet has a disaster recovery solution, but at this time it is cost prohibitive. Since you are working with Filenet software have you any ideas?
Thanks,
Jason
