Re: can any one help me to safe my server from destroing
you can install the patches from the HP support plus cd or you can download standard patch bundles from this link. Do remember this may not have some latest patch that were released after the bundle was released.
http://www6.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/locateBundles.do
Or you can do a patch analysis of your system and then download the patches or download a ftp script that will download and build a patch depot which you can use to install the patches.
http://www6.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/assessSystemsPage.do
You may still have to download / install a patch or two that may be specific to the version of application / oracle you are installing. The documentation for the oracle install will probably list the patches you may need.
Also check out the patch management guide,
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5991-0686/index.html
Hope this helps.

Re: can any one help me to safe my server from destroing
1) Back up your key data first.
2) If you have a spare disk, install and boot off of that disk instead of your current disk.
Best regards,
Oz

SolutionAn Ignite/UX backup is the only way to have true full recovery.
You can get the software from here: -
http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=IGNITEUXB
Make sure you have installed the latest pax patch first (PHCO_30420 is the latest recommended): -
http://www5.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|&patchid=PHCO_30420&context=hpux:800:11:11
Then read the Ignite/UX admin guide page on make_net_recovery: -
http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90872/index.html
Bear in mind that this is more work as you have no tape drive - you will need to setup the other HPUX server as an Ignite server, which you wouldn't have to do if you had a tape drive.

Re: can any one help me to safe my server from destroing
If you go into the itrc.hp.com, there is an option for the patch/firmware database, in which you can enter a patch name, and it will come back giving you the selected patch name, the recommended patch, and the latest patch. If you're not sure, go for the recommended patch.
I think you might be overly concerned about the patches, in general there are critical warnings in patches or new problems introduced, but if you check your patches though the patch database you should be fine.
To backup your system, if you have a tape drive on the system you could create an Ignite backup onto tape. If worst comes to the worst you can then boot from the Ignite tape and restore your system to where it was when you took the backup. Check the Ignite manuals (docs.hp.com) for details.
hope that helps,
Kevin.

http://www.software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=HPUXDVDWRITE
Also you will need a ReWritable DVD (get more then 1).
Then you can backup files to the DVD...

The README and Getting Started documents, as well as, other supporting documentation is found in /usr/local/doc/dvd+rw-tools.

Re: can any one help me to safe my server from destroing
Example:
growisofs -Z /dev/rdsk/c#t#d# -r -U -max-iso9660-filenames /etc
overwrites media contents with the content of /etc
growisofs -M /dev/rdsk/c#t#d# -r -U -max-iso9660-filenames /tmp
adds the content of /tmp to media, intermixed with the previously existing content

Re: can any one help me to safe my server from destroing
Do a bdf - look at the file systems...
if total is less then 5.7 GB, then do all of /
You will want at least:
/etc
/sbin
/stand
/home
/opt
/usr
/var

Re: can any one help me to safe my server from destroing
Hi Mohammed,
You can try "growisofs -Z /dev/rdsk/c#t#d# -r -U -max-iso9660-filenames /"
This will backup everything under root directory, the entire system. You will still of course need to reinstall your OS and then copy over necessary files from the DVD.....with ignite you wouldnt need that step....
Make sure you have enough space though, with a bdf or df -k

Re: can any one help me to safe my server from destroing
i am install the DVD_R/W on my server succefly . but when i enter a blank DVD media and exe. the command the out put come :
#growisofs -Z /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 -r -U -max-iso9660-filenames /
the output will:
:-( unable to open ("dev/rscsi/c0t0l0",O_RDONLY):NO such file or Directory
:-! consider 'mknod /dev/rscsi/c0t0l0 c 203 0x000002;chmod 0600 /dev/rscsi/c0t'
then i do :
#mknod /dev/rscsi/c0t0l0 c 203 0x000002
#chmod 0600 /dev/rscsi/c0t
chmod:can't access /dev/rscsi/c0t
then i repeat first step but with /etc :
#growisofs -Z /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 -r -U -max-iso9660-filenames /etc
the outpu came:
:-(/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0 : media is not recognized as recordable DVD : 0
the media is "BenQ""DVD-R""4.7 GB""2x.4x"
what is the solution for this problem my friends i need to back up my folder to My DVD.

Re: can any one help me to safe my server from destroing
Hi,
do a
# ioscan -fnCdisk
What is the output??
Somewhere should be the model and type of your DVD-Write, also the word CLAIMED should stand there.
Underneath devicefiles pop up.
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0
Is this all correct?
Can you post this output?

Re: can any one help me to safe my server from destroing
If c0t0d0 is indeed your DVD drive,
ls -l /dev/rdsk /dev/rscsi
and look for a pass through device file with a minor number that
matches the minor number of the character device file.
If you do not have the correct /dev/rscsi device file, you can
create it as follows:
Using the major number 203 and the minor number from the
character device file associated with the DVD+RW drive (e.g.
0x0XYZ00), execute the following mknod command, substituting
the correct value of X, Y and Z:
$ mknod /dev/rscsi/cXtYlZ c 203 0x0XYZ00
^ ^ ^ ^^^
Please note that the pass through device file naming
convention required by the dvd+rw-tools software uses an 'l'
to specify logical unit rather than a 'd' for device unit.
Once that is done, then you can write:
growisofs -Z /dev/rdsk/c#t#d# -r -U -max-iso9660-filenames /
Again, good docs in /usr/local/doc/dvd+rw-tools
Keep us up to date - as I don't have a DVD RW drive to test myself...
