Can HP-UX 11.0 support mac services?

Just been asked the following question but i dont have a clue!

Anybody know?

Can HP-UX 11.0 support mac services like windoze?

They basically want to be able to store mac files on a hp disk array under HP-UX 11.0.

I thought of ftp but i guess thats a bit long winded and messy.

The only thing I can think of that would allow you to do something like that is SAMBA / CIFS/9000, but that is only of the Mac's support NT File Sharing. I have no Macintosh experience so I can't say for sure. But if the Mac's can somehow attach to a Windows Shared Drive, then they should be able to attach to a CIFS share from the HP-UX box.

See CIFS/9000 info here:

CIFS/9000 Client (allows HP-UX to mount NT shares): http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=B8724AA

CIFS/9000 Server (allows HP-UX to share file systems which can then be mounted by NT clients): http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=B8725AA

I believe there's also an implementation of NFS for the
pre-OSX Mac. I don't remember what it's called.
OSX may come with NFS built-in. These would allow
you to store files on the HP.

There's also a package called CAP (Columbia Appletalk
Protocol) which you can install on a Unix machine so
that it can speak Appletalk natively. Then your HP would
show up in the Chooser like any other Mac. I think you
can even share Unix print queues this way. The last
time I tried to install CAP (>5 years ago) it was quite
difficult to install. I eventually gave up and just used
FTP.

There are a couple of possibilities;

1) Thursby Software has a product called MacNFS which gives Macs the ability to mount nfs shares

2) There is a piece of software called Netatalk (available at sourceforge) the provides Appletalk and AppleshareIP from Unix
systems. I run at on RH Linux 7.2 at home and it works fine (taking in account the lack of
carrage returns in unix)
