can i disable multicasting?

my networking guru's have requested me to disable mutlicasting on my GIG lan card, coming from my L2000 HP server, currently running OS 11i. We have had intermittent problems with connectivity to a few NT servers, and they seem to think this will help. Is this doable? what i've read so far doesnt seem to recommend making this change. Any info or assistance will be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: can i disable multicasting?

Unless you happen to have applications doing multicasting, the HP system isn't going to send any multicasts. And if you have applications using multicasting, they may not take terribly well to having multicasting disabled - if it is even possible in the first place.

Can your NT people expand a bit on what they think is coming from the HP server and how it affects the now ancient NT systems?

to disable multicast, I believe you should be able to do it through ifconfig.

check the man page of ifconfig and look for option -allmulti
