can i find codeword in hp machine?

We'd installed MC-ServiceGuard 2 years ago, and we lost the codeword. Do you know where to find it in the machine/directory?

Sam,

I don't think it's possible to get codeward information from server.

You can contact HP for help. They will ask your CD number, Purchase order copy and will provide new code ward.

perhaps the codeword file was re-assigned
Check in /usr/lib/sw/sys.defaults and /var/adm/sw/defaults

In thwe worst case, you can contact HP and get the codeword re-issued :

Sam,
please check those files fot location changes for .codewords file.

Example .codewords file:
#CD_part_number Customer_Id IdType Codeword
5012-7993 "xxxxxxxxxxxx" CUST_ID yyyyyyyyyyy-

The .codewords file only holds the codewords used via swinstall for certain products.

You could try and search the machine via:
find / -name ".codewords", but it just as easy to contact HP Licensing.

Hi Peter,

It looks like the "Software License Manager" can only create the new codeword if I submit the customer id and so on.

What we want is to get the same codeword back.
So what can I do?

Sam,
if you contact HP http://licensing.hp.com/showAssistanceForm.slm
they will provide you the details, but they have to know for what system etc., which is why they need the Support ID etc.

Going back to the original question, if the application is running ok, why do you need to find the codeword? If your machine has been upgraded/changed, you may find that the codeword does not work, as it has to be generated against machine id, media id and other keys.

Because we will upgrade our hp unix version to 11.23, HP asked us to do the upgrade codeword and we need to provide the codeword to them.

Your codeword from 2 years ago will not work even if you find it. Because you upgraded, there are different versions of your MCSG (and other optional software) which must be installed from new Application CDs.
