Can I install HP-UX on 32 bit server using recovery tape of 64 bit HP-UX ?

Hi Gurus

I want to install HP-UX on a D-Class (32 bit) server. I have Ignite backup of 64 bit O.S. taken using following command

make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -x exclude=/tmp -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn

Is this possible? If yes please tell me th procedure.

You can't do 32 bit install using 64 bit recovry tape

Even with the latest release of ignite, (which includes installation from different hardware types) I doubt that you could install a 32 bit version primarily to do with the 32bit binaries not being on the tape.

Your best bet is a clean install from CD. Only other method is having an ignite server available to push a client install.

For me it looks like

You can do that

check the man pages of make_medialif for the -a option.

When you boot from the recovery tape just

interrupt at the boot sequence.

Go for a interactive installation.

check whether in the advanced installation menu you have the choice of 32 or 64 bit
