I am about to purchase 16 CPU's from HP...if this is too much processing power I would like to be able to switch a few CPU's off and not pay for the license's. Is there anyway of disabling/turning off CPU's on the fly ??

Re: Can I switch CPU's off
With feathure, you can 4 cpus at the moment and later on when needed add as you want. In that case all you want is a license for it.
Another way it disable a cpu at gsp.
But iCOD is what you should go for. With this you can 16 cpus in your machione, while you pay only for what you use. Additional cpu available with just command line.

Re: Can I switch CPU's off
/*
Reboot the machine and
Interrupt the boot by pressing any key within the 10 seconds
type CO (enter configuration mode)
type CPU to find out the processors
co> CPU
reset to reboot the machine
*/
If you are using a Superdome HP server which can support dynamic partitioing it should be possible to disable the CPU's on the fly

SolutionWhen the iCOD software has been purchased, installed, configured and is up and running, you will be able to modify the number of iCOD CPUs using :
# icod_modify
For instance, icod_modify -m is used to increase the number HP owned iCOD processors.
Hope this helps, Bye.
