We have Integrity server rx6600 and blades (BL860c) running hpux 11.23. They don't have internal tape drives nor SCSI adapters. They have Fiber Channel ports, which are connected to Data Protector backup tape library.
I have created a Ignite recovery tape using the tape library. Can the system boot from this tape via FC connection? Since it is a production environment, I cannot test.
Also, for the BL860c blade, there is a connector in the front for a dongle with 2 USB
connections and 1 monitor connectin. I tried to use the USB connection for a CD drive. But the system could not mount it. If the mount
works,Can one use CD/DVD drive to create Ignite recovery image and boot from it? What is a good way to create Ignite media for thes
machines without local tape drive?
Thanks,
IDT

Solutionrun make_net_recovery to the ignite server then make_tape_recovery of the ignite server to a real tape and a regular basis.
Now that still does not mean your FC attached tape is supported as a boot device but all the other servers will have no issue booting from the ignite server.

Re: Can Ignite use FC connected tape drive
Better solution would be an ignite server and backup over the network.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Can Ignite use FC connected tape drive
recovery media for disaster recovery. We have
Ignite server with all the net images already. In the case without network, we'd like to recover the OS asap that's why tape
or CD/DVD is considered.
