Re: can not boot from install dvd on rx2660

What version of HP-UX are you trying to install? What is the date on the DVD?

My suspicion is that the DVD may be too old for this machine.

Are you connected to serial or VGA?

You won't see anything on VGA with this settings.

Hope this helps!

Re: can not boot from install dvd on rx2660

Hi,

I've seen this exact issue before and as pointed out it is your console configuration that you need to check.

You need to boot to the EFI Boot menu and then configure the active console output and input devices. Note down what it is currently set at.

You don't mention how you are currently connecting, i.e. through the VGA port, the dedicated console port, or the MP port.

In the list of options you should have:
- An entry without UART - which is for VGA
- Entries with UART and PCI - which is for the MP
- Another 3 or 4 that are for the serial port.

You should select VT100+ or VT100.

If you don't follow the above, just try a few changes and you will get it working.

Hope this helps,
Paul

Re: can not boot from install dvd on rx2660

Sorry, just to make it a bit clearer!

You should select VT100+ or VT100. - from the choices you have for the method of connection you are using, i.e. VGA, Serial Console Port, or MP.

It will make sense once you get to the console configuration screen!

Re: can not boot from install dvd on rx2660

Paul,

What you said is very important to me, please bear with me.

I am using MP connection, but tried the serial port connection as well. The result is the same.

If I understand you correctly, within EFI prompt I can configure the input/output devices. Can you please tell me which command under shell> promt to allow me to do that?

Thanks,

Re: can not boot from install dvd on rx2660

Try from EFI shell

Shell> conconfig

and post the result, please.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: can not boot from install dvd on rx2660

Hi,

The way I change it is once the system gets to the EFI Boot Manager screen where it asks you to select a boot option, I then go to the Boot Option Maintenance Menu.

From there you can select the active console input and output devices.

Re: can not boot from install dvd on rx2660

Paul, the menu on a rx2660 looks a bit different than on a rx2620.

The config is set to serial already and I assume Hanry is working on a serial connection or on LAN.

What date is printed on the install media and what hp-ux version you are going to install?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: can not boot from install dvd on rx2660

Do you remember this?

http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1249604

This was my guess because of

HP-UX Boot Loader for IPF -- Revision 2.025

The install media is too old!!!

I already told you in your other thread!

Opening a new thread will NOT change this!

Latest version is December 2007, but June 2006 may be enough for install.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
