Can't ftp or telnet...

Hello,

I am sure this is something simple but I just need more ideas. I have an hpux 11.0 system that I am trying to ftp or telnet to from a windows system. I can ping the hp box but cannot ftp or telnet. The basic /var/adm/inetd.sec was there and I deleted it to no avail. I also removed the ftpusers file and that didn't work either. I restarted inetd a couple of times...plus verified it and it is fine. The services file is as it should be as well.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Re: Can't ftp or telnet...

Hi,

Check if telnetd daemon is running in Unix box

Check if /var/adm/inted.sec has any entries that blocks your windows box.

What error you get ?? Are you getting "connetcion refused" error while telnet??
Also have a look at this doc

Goodluck,

Re: Can't ftp or telnet...

Check the services file, make sure there is an entry for FTP.

BTW are you trying to do this *across* a firewall? If so then you've added a whole nother set of problems. Try doing it inside the firewall first.

Re: Can't ftp or telnet...

From your HP box, can you ping your windows pc?

Also, when you attempt to ftp, what is the exact error message?

What is the IP address of your PC, your HP box, and what is the result of a "netstat -rn" on both??
