I have a HP 9000 workstation with external SCSI Toshiba cdrom. I just fresh installed HPUX 11.00 onto the workstation from the cdrom. No problems there, just boot from alternative source and run the install. Then I needed to install some additional software once the base OS was on there. There are 3 disks in ioscan -fnC disk and /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 is my cd. BUT when I "mount /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 /whatever" I get the error "Unrecognised file system"...hmm!
I thought it might have been that the device was missing a SCSI terminator so I got one and stuck it on there...no change.
The cd media is fine because I mounted and read it on a wintel machine and my sun box. I tried other good media in the HP box but still the same message. I tried the mount -F cdfs option....nada!
Please help

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
I find it strange that CD is on C0. On my servers C0 is for the Initiator...
Hope this'll help.

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
Are you using the right path??
mount -F cdfs /dev/dsk/cxtxdx /cdrom
mount -o cdcase /dev/dsk/cxtxdx

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
I'll quote from Merijn's faq at his website (or it's mirror, that is) http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/
" *
Do not use pfs_mount!. Install the Rock-Ridge extension patches instead and never worry about these problems. For HP-UX 11.00 you will need forget all about PFS and install PHKL_26448 (now superceded by PHKL_28060), PHCO_26449, and PHKL_26450 to have HP-UX recognize those file systems automatically on mount! For HP-UX 11.11 (11i) you need PHCO_25841, PHKL_26269, and PHKL_25760 (now superceded by PHKL_28025).
No need thereafter to use -o cdfs to mount anymore, provided you enter the CD drive in /etc/fstab like this:
/dev/cd0 /cdrom cdfs ro,rr,noauto 0 0"

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
try swinstall without mounting the cd.
Choose 'Find local cd'.

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
This CD is the Applications CD disk 4 of 5. I want to install the DCE Kernel Threads. I have tried to simply run swinstall and Find local CD and it quickly "homes in on" SD_CDROM directory and then says "no media in there" and that's it. There's nothing wrong with the media, I'm quite certain and I don't think there's much wrong with the drive seeing as I've installed the OS from it and can boot from it...ergo something in the OS is tripping me up.

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
Just a hunch before getting extremely exotic.
"mount -r /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 /whatever"
It could be that the disk has an hfs filesystem on it :P.

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
This should work,
1. mount /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 /SD_CDROM
2. swinstall
If not try mounting as suggested by Gerhard.
Hope that helps.

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
very strange ... can you mount any other cd right now?
It seems to be the cdrom drive.
Can you add another drive?
Can you test the drive at another pc/ws?
Volkmar
*who don't want to ask if you've switched on the drive* ;-)

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
The filesystem for CDROM is CDFS not HFS.
Jackie,
Had you ensured that a CD is loaded into the CDROM before attempting to mount?

# mount -r -F cdfs /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 /SD_CDROM
/dev/dsk/c0t2d0: I/O error
One would think that the drive is toast but I just installed the OS from it and it shows up in ioscan.

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
I had an issue where a customer sent me an HFS cd. Obviously in this case then
mount -r -F cdfs /dev/dsk/c0t2d0 /SD_CDROM
If you have the pfs_mount stuff running. Disable the pfs stuff and give it a whirl again. pfs has this bad habit of interfering.
Tried a different cd rom drive on the same machine?

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
I have to ask it. It is an original cd ? and not a backup copy?

Could you check if you have loaded next patches.

Re: Can't mount a cdrom. Pathetic.
RJ is maybe on the better direction - from when is your OS cd?
And can you specify your ws?
Volkmar
P.S. Eric's link is about an audio cd ...
