Re: can we perform snap for IVM and run backup for windows guest os
1-)Virtual Disk
2-)Virtual LvDisk
3-)Virtual FileDisk
What do you mean by snap? If you mean persistent image of your storage at an exact point in time with only little disk space that only changes will be written, then:
For virtual disk i think you have no possibility. For virtual lvdisk lvmerge/lvsplit is not a choice for you, it is not snap, it actually likes mirroring. For virtual filedisk "Veritas File System snapshots" may be used but you have to test it.
On the storage side(EMC,XP) you may have several options.

Re: can we perform snap for IVM and run backup for windows guest os
No this functionality is not included in HPVM.
But this is UNIX, so scripting things is easy - depoending on what backing store you use, you may have a slection of snapshot capabilities available to you already...
-if you have a file backing store you can use snapshotting based on disk array snapshots or if you have it, based on OnlineJFS snapshots...
-if you use LV backing store or disk backing store you can use snapshotting based on disk array snapshots.

(PS don't use the acronym IVM for HP Virtual Machines as that's actually already used by IBM to signify their "Intergrated Virtualization Manager", so to avoid confusion the acronym is HPVM)

Re: can we perform snap for IVM and run backup for windows guest os
we are using HP SAN.
i think that one on the storage level, like vmware we have the snap manager on the host level that can do the snap and then we perform backup of that file. we can do something like this.
Many thanks in advance

Re: can we perform snap for IVM and run backup for windows guest os
In the IVM Virtual Machine if you are using
the HP SAN Storage then you present the Tape Library from VMHOSTS to VMGUEST.
If u requreid to take a backup you can directely take in Tape Drive.
Please tell me which HP SAN Storageyou are using.
Thanks
