Can4t build a new kernel because it failed

I was trying to install the Workstation Quality Pack for HP/UX 10.20 september 2000, but it suddenly failed.
I have attached the error messages from the swagent.log file.
Can anyone tell me how I solv that problem.
Yours sincerely

Re: Can4t build a new kernel because it failed

Did you try loading these apps using swinstall? The error message is pointing to that. I also saw the ld error; it possibly could be corrupt. Try getting it from another workstation and retry. Best of luck.

Re: Can4t build a new kernel because it failed

Hi

The kernel cannot be built and the system cannot be re-booted because
the HP-UX library (/usr/conf/lib/libhp-ux.a) is "buggy" after
swremoving patches from the system. One of the patches may have been
PHKL_16750/1.

This issue is based on changes in PHKL_16750/1 which
require another patch to be installed: [PHKL_19755/PACHRDME/English] or
PHKL_19756. However, PHKL_19755/6 is
not referenced as dependency patch for PHKL_16750/1
in the text file of PHKL_16750/1!
But PHKL_19755/6 names PHKL_16750/1 as dependency patch.

Perform the following steps to resolve the problem:

1. swremove PHKL_19755/6 --> this rebuilds the kernel

2. swinstall PHKL_16750/1 w/ reinstall existing filesets option

3. swinstall PHKL_19755/6 w/ reinstall existing filesets option
and deselect autoselect dependencies
option

please reply if it will not work for you , i handle the same case few month ago and this solve the problem .

Thangs Eran,
I can?t remove the patch PHKL_19755, because it not install, but I think you right. It must be something like this.

Re: Can4t build a new kernel because it failed

Hi Jan

yep, i m preaty sure that the problem is patch PHCO_16750 or PHCO_16751 .

in all the cases that i found with this error the are talking about this patch .

16750 - for workstation
16751 - for server .

i m now makimg the bundle of the patches and dep. of this patch , so tell me if you need more help .

this is a issue of installing kernel patches and from exp. 1 from 25 of installing of the kernel patches there is a problem with the ld error .

it will be nice if you did a ignite backup of the system but i m sure that there is something with this patch .

one more thing , i know that you dont have the
patch PHKL_19755/6 install because this is doing the problem .

also you need to install it with swinstall ( like you did )

Re: Can4t build a new kernel because it failed

I appologize for my failure to help you on this. I obviously assumed too much in my analysis. Hats off to you, eran; you seem to have hit the nail on the head. I hope to be able to help you in the future, if required.

Good luck and hopefully your problem is solved.

Regards,
Chris

Re: Can4t build a new kernel because it failed

To Eran,
First off all, thanks for helping me.
I didn?t have time yesterday to verify if it solve the problem, but I will try it as soon as possible.
