Cannot execute command

Hi there. I don't know whether this thread had been post or not. Because I search through this forum but no one meet what i want.I hope you guys can help.

I logged in to the server. However, the command that i typed could not be executed. There is no such a pointer or anything. When i type the command e.g date. Then i press enter. Nothing happened.

Re: Cannot execute command

What do you mean by "Nothing happened."? Do you get back teh shell prompt without anything displayed? or you get a error message?

If its something like "date: not found" then, it means that your PATH variable is not set.

Re: Cannot execute command

I don't get anything. No warning. It just like I type in Word. Press Enter then the pointer will come down.

HPUX?

A new server or new account?

Did it ever work?

What changed?

Did it come back with a prompt?!?!

>> However, the command that i typed could not be executed.

Did you try a ^C and try again?

This is most likely a broken user profile setup (profile or .cshrc or .bashrc...), or even a proken shell.

As the system administrator (or is that you?) to triple check the user setup for teh account used.

a command with a long wait in the profile could simply explain this behaviour. ^C might break that.

This that 'look' like what you describe are
1) sleep 9999
2) cat > x

Hope this helps some,
Good luck,
Hein.

Re: Cannot execute command

also some fileset may be corruptes;
you should verify all filesets by
swverify -F \*
and look at logfile.

Re: Cannot execute command

For Hein

HPUX? <- Yes

A new server or new account? <- Not a new server.

Did it ever work? <- Yes

What changed? <- I'm not sure because the user ask me about this problem.

Did it come back with a prompt?!?! <- Nope

Did you try a ^C and try again? <- Yes. But it still the same.

As the system administrator (or is that you?) to triple check the user setup for teh account used. <- Yes. I'm a new staff as system administrator here. I will ask the senior :-)

Thanks for your explanation.
