Cannot see external disk

I have 36GB internal for rx1600 with 11.23. When I add the external disk (9G) that connect to the back SCSI interface but the server can't detect it using ioscan -fnC disk or SAM. Only internal 36GB HDD and DVD ROM can be found.

I try to boot to EFI mode, it can detect the external disk. What's matter?

Re: Cannot see external disk

What type of disk / disk chassis is it?

Is there a termination in place?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Cannot see external disk

Hi Yaqub,

There is ioscan output:

/dev/dsk/c2t0d0s2 /dev/rdsk/c2t0d0s2

Re: Cannot see external disk

run the command "insf -e" couple of times and then check for if it detectes in ioscan.

If still it is not detected then check if it is detected in

echo "map selall info;wait infolog" | cstm

and still if not the disk might be DOA.... replace it.

Re: Cannot see external disk

Hi Torsten,

The external HDD shall UltraSCSI only. I believe it has not UltraSCSI 2 or 320. However, there should be ok as long as slow performance, right?

mtpconfig /dev/mpt3 result

# mptconfig /dev/mpt3

Re: Cannot see external disk

The scsi controller does not see the disk.

A couple of choices:

- bad disk
- bad cable
- bad terminator
- bent pin
...

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Cannot see external disk

EFI mode can see the pun5 external disk 20MB/s, while the pun0 internal 36GB disk 320MB/s
