cant telnet to 2 of 5 boxes directly from my laptop

okay here's the deal.

I have 5 boxes on the same network 192.168.140.xxx. They have the same netmask.

2 of the 5 boxes I can not telnet to directly, but can telnet to from one of the other 3 boxes.

any thoughts?

Check the route entries on the 2 boxes ,which are not getting connected .

What account are you trying to telnet in as; root? If so, check for the existence of a file securetty in /etc.

Here's a previous thread on securetty.

This isnt anything to do with security.

I cant get a connection to the host when issuing a telnet command from putty using the IP address of the host in question.

Start with the basics.

Ping a number of addresses from the non-working boxes to others on the same subnet.

Ping default router.

Ping work station.

If ping is working then move on to troubleshooting telnet.
