CD-ROM Mount Problem
I am having MWA Trial CD from HP,
I tried to mount but I am not able to mount it
properly, there is no instructions for the Mount options.
I tried the follwoing
1. mount
2. mount -F cdfs
3. mount -o cdcase
In none of the above I could install the s/w.
i tried mounting the same in LINUX all files are looking OK.
In HPUX system in all the cases the files names are ending either
with . (dot) or ! (escallamatory)
Anyother options are there to mount the CDROM?
Is anybody done this allready.
please help me out
thanks in advance

Re: CD-ROM Mount Problem
You need to do a Portable File System mount (pfs).
The following documents should help you:
# KBAN00000252 (PFS to mount Oracle, Rockridge and most PC formatted CD-ROM 11.x)
or:
# KBAN00000197 (PFS to mount Oracle, Rockridge and most PC formatted CD-ROM 10.x)

Re: CD-ROM Mount Problem
First check and see if /etc/pfs_fstab looks like this:
/dev/dsk/c_t_d_ /cdrom pfs-rrip xlat=unix 0
#nohup /usr/sbin/pfs_mountd &
#nohup /usr/sbin/pfsd &
#/usr/sbin/pfs_mount /cdrom
...on some older systems (like T500) the last line would look like:
#/usr/sbin/pfs_mount /dev/dsk/c_t_d_ /SD_CDROM
TO UMOUNT THE CD
#/usr/sbin/pfs_umount /cdrom
/rcw

Re: CD-ROM Mount Problem
I don't know if this will help, but I use a combination of two of the ones you have tried:
mount -F cdfs -o ro,cdcase /dev/dsk/c#t#d# /cdrom
Also, one time I mounted the drive just using mount /dev/dsk/c#t#d# /cdrom and all of the file names on the disk had a ~1 appended to the end of the name. When I mounted the drive the way I normally do, the ~1 disappeared, so you may be seeing the . or ! because it is not being mounted correctly.

This method of mounting(with cdfs option)also didn't work out.
Anyother option can be provided by someone?..
Thanks and Regards.

Re: CD-ROM Mount Problem
I've had the same problem before.
I solved it by using a different mount_dir
hope that helps

Re: CD-ROM Mount Problem
Or you can rcp / ftp the necessaryfiles to the HP-UX box.
Linux does support an awful lot of different filesystems, much more than HP-UX does. If this is a one time problem i would not spend to much time on solving. Even if this is an interesting problem i would just copy the files using a Linux box and forget about it.

Re: CD-ROM Mount Problem
For problems like this i have a small notebook running Linux which can be easily carried everywhere.
Or with some handwork to do, you cold copy the necessary files and directories to the local filesystem and rename all files. Depends on how much files you have to edit if this is practicable.
BTW: How about assigning some points?

Re: CD-ROM Mount Problem
The Problem was due to the CDROM only.
I got another CD from HP, which is working fine
now.
Thanks once again to all.
