CDE doesn't start after first restart
Hi,
I've just received my HP-UX box and after running the default initialization, I logged as a new user and now I get the message "The desktop messaging system could not be started."
I've looked in the archive and tried everything that has been suggested. I am on a DHCP network and did nslookup `hostname`. It returns the same IP as the one in /etc/rc.config.d/netconfig (shouldn't this be dynamic anyway?).
This is my first time running HP-UX since high school days, so any help would be greatly appreciatted. Thanks

Re: CDE doesn't start after first restart
Replying to my own message here. Just to let you know that it worked by setting the /etc/hosts with the ip I got from doing a ifconfig lan0. Which is weird is the fact that the IP was not reset after doing a reboot since I have dhcp client set up for network. Is there a simple way to get this to work all the time with dhcp or do I need to do that for every restart? If this is the case then I would rather have a static IP for this box. TIA for letting me know.

Re: CDE doesn't start after first restart
I'm afraid so.... Using DHCP is asking for trouble. Use static IP addresses where possible.
Anyone for a Mutiny ?

Re: CDE doesn't start after first restart
Thanks for your follow up. I will follow your advice. However, this will make the teeth of my sysadmin grinding I am afraid...
