CDE in Different Language want to do some configs with sam

Hi All,
I have UX system where the CDE language is in French. will this affect the shell also. because i need to edit some configs. Please help

What's the issue? You want it to affect the commands? Or you only know English?
If the former, what's LANG set to?
If the latter, make sure LANG is unset or set to American Nerd: export LANG=C

I only work with English. so if i access the the console will it be also in a different than usual.

You mean the GUI? I would assume you would just look at the pictures and not the words so you can bluff you way though it. But for the shell, you need to set LANG=C.

Hi,

the shell commands are the same in different CDE languages. Only in GUI you'll see the translated expressions.

Sorry, I just understood this. As long as you set LANG=C before you start sam, you should be fine. I was thinking of the CDE GUI.

The commands are mostly the same but the errors are not. (You wouldn't like your ls(1) & date(1) dates in French?) So unless you are perfect :-), go back to American Nerd.

Sorry if i was so unclear expressing the problem. So if i open a CLI and start using SAM according to you there will be no problem in language, can work independently regardless of the CDE language(which is French at the moment). Am i right ...? any way what is the impact of the set Language=C command? what it does. Do i have to connect to the WS through terminal server or can i use a monitor.

Wel, thanks for all the comments the bottem line is i have never worked in a system installed with any other language than English(It freaked me out in first sight). so can i use the SAM TUI from the shell regardless of the CDE language??????? Because need to do some configs on the system.

You can still use the SAM GUI.

C is the default. And you can use a monitor.
