CDE on HPUX 11i Freezes now and then.

CDE just freezes now and then. Then continues on its merry way.

Has anyone had this happen? I found an earlier post about this and ended up intalling these patches, to no avail. (PHCO_24839, PHNE_23502, PHSS_25196, PHSS_25788, PHSS_25789)

Logs don't show anything unusual. EMS running, not reporting anything. 10.20 sounds better than it ever did.

Rick.

Freezes .... so is this an Xserver hang ie the mouse or KB do not allow user interaction ?

rlogin and run top ...is dtwm eating cpu ?

how many cpu's in this system

do you ever see a core file produced .... consider killing X maybe ?

what graphics card are you using ?

I'd install the latest Xserver patch too PHSS_25263

Re: CDE on HPUX 11i Freezes now and then.

What way is the mouse pointing during the freeze?
NE or NW?

Does it come back?

Are you local or 'reflecting' in?

Does it happen with particular apps?

I can assure you that on an 11i system, I don't see the problem. (an I'm not patched too good)

Re: CDE on HPUX 11i Freezes now and then.

I have found that most CDE freezes are due to hostname resolution. I would check your /etc/nsswitch.conf file to see if you are using dns first. Check your /etc/hosts file to ensure that everything is kosher there as well. Don't know if this will help you, but like I said, the majority of CDE lockups that I have helped people with have stemed from hostname resolution. I hope this helps.

I experienced similar problems and you should definately check that your hosts information is correct.
Check /etc/hosts and /etc/rc.config.d/netconf to make sure all networking information is correct and the same thoughout. Also check /etc/resolv.conf.
