CDE: With eXceed, CDE sessions are not restored after logout/login

I am trying to login to my HP-UX 11.0 system from a PC running the Hummingbird eXceed v6.1 X-windows emulation package, but my CDE session does not seem to restore correctly. When I logout and then log back in, CDE has returned to the default settings.

What is causing this problem?

Re: CDE: With eXceed, CDE sessions are not restored after logout/login

There are a couple of things you can do:

1) When you have your session set up like you want it, bring up the "Style Manager" window and then select "Startup". From there you can set up your CDE to either "Resume Current Session" when you log in. If you select "Resume Current Session" then whatever your session is when you log out will be what you get when you log in next time, which could be different every time, depending on what you open and close during your work.

2) You can click on "Set Home Session..." which will make your current session your home session, and then select "Return to Home Session" and you will return to the same base session every time. I personally prefer this. This way I always know that I will have a specific set of windows that open when I log in, and I can then go from there.

I hope this helps you.

The exceed is not necessiarily controlling your CDE session. You still need to set your home session as you would do if you are on a HP system running CDE.

Re: CDE: With eXceed, CDE sessions are not restored after logout/login

ok I got it to work partly. My background changes and front panel changes restore ok. However, I had created some "actions" with the create action command and then dragged the icon to the workspace and then set my home session. After I logout and login the icons are gone. If I click on the file manager suddenly the icons reappear on the workspace (they also appear in the file manager). Does that make any since to anyone?

Jeff,

I created a shortcut using the Create Action, the moved it to my desktop, saved my home session and logged out and back in. The shortcut was on my desktopy when I logged back in.

You may just want to check and make sure that you have all of the latest CDE patches. That could make a difference.

Re: CDE: With eXceed, CDE sessions are not restored after logout/login

Do you have any action icons set up in your workspaces? How many?

The reason I ask is that I seem to recall a defect with CDE having problems restoring the desktop if you exceeded some (small) number of action icons on the desktop. I don't recall the CR number but will continue to look for it.

I have 9 icons on my workspace.

Re: CDE: With eXceed, CDE sessions are not restored after logout/login

I had a problem like this before. First I saved my CDE session and had it return to my home session. Next I had to change Exceed to startup in full windows mode Not run it in a window.

Re: CDE: With eXceed, CDE sessions are not restored after logout/login

Shawn Kelly :

1. you will need dtlogin process running on an hpux server. If its not running check CDE Runtime Env is installed (off core O/S CD)

2. Exceed=>Exceed(XDMCP-Broadcast) this should start an XDMCP broadcast chooser window listing the servers you can currently connect to : pick your server.

Jeff

9 Icons dosen't sound many ....

try this : exit out of CDE, mv $HOME/.dt/ out the way
log back in
do your customisations
open up stylemanager=> startup =>set home session
then return to home session once and only once you've done the above !

logout
log back in ...any better ?

Alex,

Thanks for the assist but how do I browse hosts on other subnets? Is there a way to create a list of servers to connect to?

Exceed => Xconfig=> Transports look like a good place to start ?
