CDE/X/Display goes blank

Hi,
I am running HP-UX 11.0 on B2650 workstation. We are running high end CAD/CAM/CAE software like MSC Nastran, Catia V4 on this machine. Sometimes when a user invokes any Catia/Nastran file, the display completely blanks out. Don't know if this is bug in X/CDE software? The only way to recover is to reboot the machine by logging in remotely and giving the reboot command. Any ideas?

thanx,
Sharath.
I am always confused

Re: CDE/X/Display goes blank

yes prior to rebooting examine contents/output from top ... any zombies or processes eating cpu ? eg CATSTAR

any clues, core file produced or entries in /var/dt/Xerrors

consider toc'ing the box to create a crash dump
for futher analysis

run dmesg ...any errors ?

Patch level wrt cde,Xserver opengl etc ? swlist output would be useful.

Also please let me see output from graphinfo.

Lastly I take it you have tuned the kernel as per CATIA's installation guide or similar ? how long has this been occuring , suddenly started ?

Re: CDE/X/Display goes blank

Hi

Alex gives good advice

/var/dt/Xerrors
$HOME/.dt/errorlog $HOME/.dt/startlog

Also /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

When you login to reboot do first a
ps -ef|sort -n and save the output

file core of any corefiles found

Post it all
