Re: cdrom communication error
Did you check my first link ? It refers to the same type of error. Check for any automount file systems and then restart your swagentd.
Also see another link:

Re: cdrom communication error
One options is to copy the depot from the CD to a local directory and start install from that. Register the new depot if needed.
Also check the SD patch level of your system, apply the latest (december 2001) patches.

Re: cdrom communication error
Another thing is to make sure that your network is working fine. Normally when you invoke any SD-UX commands, it will check for the network and will give error if anything wrong. Try doing an swlist, swverify or swconfig !
Also, try downloading a patch from the HP site and install it. By doing this you can eliminate the problem with either SD-UX or your depot files !

i've tried it going through SAM, but not directly. would that make a difference?
note: rpc agent timeout is set to 7 days, and rpc timeouts are set to max.

SolutionYou can install the latest one. All support plus software is cumulative and completely replaces any previous releases. However, you can check for the Y2K patches seperately.
But for sorting out your original swinstall error, you can just donwload an individual patch and try.

Re: cdrom communication error
The question was not very clear (?) Can you explain little more ?
Your basic target is to eliminate the error on either SD-UX or the depot, rt?

Re: cdrom communication error
i was testing to see if it was the depot by trying to run the hardware critical set.
turns out it runs, but only one has no problems. the rest all seem to have the same problem: option -f and -n are not supported for df.
turns out the other hpux system has a df that is about a year older and a 1.5 megs smaller that supports it. we've copied that over and are going to temporarily replace the one on hal with that (the one that was here will be named old.df).
anyone know why a newer version of df might have lost those options that are obviously used by the pre-install scripts?
should we bother keeping the old-to-hal df one at all if it works with the new-to-hal df?

Re: cdrom communication error
Normally, df should support these options. I think your system must bee keeping some old file sets OR system picking up old filesets in the PATH OR can be the patch level issue itself. (is this was a cold install ?)
Make your system to the latest patch levels, and check for any mismatches. Also cleanup all your old filesets/patches from the system. I would suggest you to keep the same version of files and commands as of the system, instead of going for an older version.

Re: cdrom communication error
it is actually the df that is older that supports it. i don't know how the install was done because i got it with a lot already there.
we just installed the hardware critical using theolder df when checking to see if that was infact the problem. usingthe older df actually solved ALL the problems on the hardware critical patches.
a lot of the patches went into the directory of the user who kept up the machine. if we do end up deciding to take out the patches and re-install them, where can i get the y2k patches from and what directory should i throw patches into in order to make them available to anyone doing upkeep? (i'd like a common directory that would be normal for this, if there is one. if not i'll probably send it to var.)

Re: cdrom communication error
The latest patch bundle for 10.20 includes all y2k patch in it. The 10.20 Hardware/Critical Patch bundle is a tested set of HP-UX core hardware enablement and critical patches.
http://www.software.hp.com/SUPPORT_PLUS/hwcr.html
Also, if you need y2k patches seperately, check here:
http://us-support.external.hp.com/wpsl/bin/doc.pl/sid=e39d3628146cbf8a70/screen=wpslSelectBundle
Select y2k-1020S800.tar for servers running 10.20.
Normally you don't need to specify a location for installing the patches. The default directory is /var/adm/sw/patch. The system will keep track of this after you install the patches (regardless of users).

Re: cdrom communication error
thanx. i'm going to ok it with my superior and then remove the patches on there and then put on the ones on the cd. after that i'll look into using the Brandeis' codes to see if we have access to getting the newer patches. i think we may have let the contract lapse since there is only one other HPUX machine that is used and that hasn't been patched for about a year.
(it's also 10.20)

Re: cdrom communication error
we removed the older patches then put these on. it seems to be that the df was somehow related to the timeouts. thank you for hte excellent advice. we cleaned up the machine while putting these on as a result of it.
