Re: cdrom

In servers its a scsi cd-rom

In workstations its ide.

I know of no exceptions to the server rule.

There may be exceptions to the workstation rule.

It is possible to install a scsi cd in a workstation so long as the proper scsi card is also installed.

Re: cdrom

Normally they are single ended SCSI. The K series as well as the D's, R's all have internal SE interfaces to drive them. The L servers (RP) also have single ended but in those devices they are normally DVD ROM's
hope this helps

Re: cdrom

Hey Pete,

I used to think the same thing, but Patrick or someone corrected me, provided a link and everything.

Re: cdrom

I have no idea.

I firmly remember stating emphatically that they don't support IDE and being proven wrong.

If I have a slow day, I'll look up the thread.

It could be unreliable memory you know....(taps the old forehead)

Every workstation I've actually taken apart was ....

SCSI

Re: cdrom

To get back to the original question, then, I guess it might be fair to say that workstations could be either, but generally they're SCSI:

root# lssf /dev/rdsk/c2t2d0
sdisk card instance 2 SCSI target 2 SCSI LUN 0 section 0 at address 8/16/5.2.0 /
dev/rdsk/c2t2d0
root# model
9000/785/C360
