Chagning the OS/Kernel to 64bit or 32bit???

On Solaris and IBM there are ways to change the kernel mode to 32bit or 64bit, by issuing a few commands and rebooting. We use this all the time to test our applications.

I know back on 2005, I could not do that unless if reinstall OS. But, not sure if there is any update since then.

My question: can this be done with HP-UX as well? If so how to do that

Not on 11.11 or 11.23. I have not had a chance to install and play with 11.31, so I can not speak for this one but I am sure someone will. My gut felling is : Not very likely...

Hi Hanry:

The last release to support a 32-bit kernel was 11.0 which went out-of-support in December 2006. Even with 11.0 you would had to reinstall to flip between 32- and 64-bit kernels and then _only_ if your hardware supported 32-bit.

All new HP-UX kernels only come in the color black.

There is no need to test a 32 bit application with a 32 bit kernel. A 64 bit will work fine.

The last time I looked 11.11 supported a few 32 bit systems. Perhaps only on the initial releases.
