Change hostname to all lower case...

OS Version: HP-UX 11i v2

At our prompt and hostname variable our hostname comes up with all capial letter...

root@PARTITION-N3:/

Where do we make the change on the system to do this.

We have already made the changes in the /etc/rc/config.d/netconf, the /etc/hosts and the rhosts file and still it comes up in all CAPS.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Change hostname to all lower case...

Hi Gene:

Reboot your server. Changing a hostname requires this step.

Did that a few times already.
I'm out of ideas.

Re: Change hostname to all lower case...

Do you have any backup copies of the netconf file in the /etc/rc.config.d directory?

Do an 'll /etc/rc.config.d/netconf*'. If more than one file is listed, delete or move all but netconf.

You MUST NEVER have backup copies of files in the rc.config.d directory.

You can also try 'grep -i partition /etc/rc.config.d/*' to see what all files have the name listed.

What is shown if you do a 'hostname' at the command prompt? Is it lower-case or upper-case?

Re: Change hostname to all lower case...

Yes, when I type hostname in a commandline it's all caps.

Yes also on a backup of the netconf file. I deleted it. the only other files are these...

-r--r--r-- 1 bin bin 6169 Nov 21 13:10 /etc/rc.config.d/netconf
-r--r--r-- 1 bin bin 10544 Aug 26 2004 /etc/rc.config.d/netconf-ipv6

I am rebooting right now to see if deleting the file worked......
