Change root passwd at web console

Hi, I have a L class running 11.0, with no physical console. Root login is disabled (with 'console' in /etc/securetty) but I'm still able to root login thru the web console. My root passwd just expired and I realised that I can't change it thru the web console. When I login from the web console as root, it will return "Login incorrect". When I login as a normal user and su, it will return "passwd expired". Pls advise on what could be the problem and how can I change my expired root passwd. Thanks.

Re: Change root passwd at web console

Hi,

1.Telnet to the webconsole IP.
2.Login as MP user
3. access console by entering CO
4. Login as root
5. Change password

Re: Change root passwd at web console

Hi Bonny, thanks for the reply. I accessed the web console thru a browser (not telnet), does that make a difference? BTW, I managed to get the console and prompt, but when I tried to logged in as root, it returns "login incorrect".

Re: Change root passwd at web console

Both are same when it comes to the Console access. Since you are still unable login as root there must be something wrong
Login as normal user through the console
do who -u and find out the console name
it must be "console"
Find the entry of /etc/securetty is same or not.
Are you in trusted mode or something?

Re: Change root passwd at web console

Hi Bonny, thanks for the reply. It was my mistake because I had entered /dev/console in /etc/securetty. Thanks again for your help.
