change the primary/alternate boot path from a remote system.

Hi all!
I am looking for a possibility to change the primary/alternate boot path from a remote system.

For example, the system is up and running HP-UX 10.20 on SCSI.6.0, which is defined as the primary boot path. Right at the beginning of boot process, you can change it in the menu by typing: PA PRI SCSI... / for alternate boot path PA ALT SCSI.... respectively.
However I can only change this entry locally at the machine, while boot sequence.

Because our machines are in the testfloors, in quite a distance from our offices and behind a gowning procedure, it would be very handy to change the boot path entry after the machine has booted up.

I know, that there is a command *eeprom* at sun solaris. Do you know a comparable command at HP-UX?

Many thanks,
Ale

Hi:

The command you are seeking is 'setboot'. Have a look at the man pages for more information. A synopsis is:

# /usr/sbin/setboot [-p primary_path] [-a alternate_path] [-s on|off] [-b on|off]

Use the setboot command. This allows you to change the boot path from HP-UX (ie. while the system is up and booted). It takes effect from the next reboot. See man setboot.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Do a "man setboot". It has the ability to define the boot paths.

Hope this helps.
