Changing form settings on a Jet Direct Box

I have an HP Jet Direct print server model number J3258B that is attached to a Texas Instruments 885 Label printer. And I need to make changes to the form settings so that it will not skip labels. Where can I change these settings and what utility can I use to change them?

I don't know anything about forms, but if you need to set some configuration options to a JetDirect you can use either a telnet session to the JetDirect IP address, or the JetAdmin application that you can download directly from http://www.hp.com/go/jetadmin

Re: Changing form settings on a Jet Direct Box

Forms are not configured in the Jet Direct device. Forms are defined in your spooler or your application software. For example, you can define forms in HP OpenSpool. Then the printer output from your application software will specify which form to use. Sometimes defining a form that uses every line on a label (or is larger than the label) will cause you to skip a label.

Re: Changing form settings on a Jet Direct Box

The JetDirect box/card is more of a traffic cop than a print server per se. In most environments it is little more than a communication device with the added functionality to control the flow print job data. It adds nothing or takes away nothing from the data stream.

The extra label problem is probably a problem with the print driver that you are using. The most likely situation is that either the driver or your application is placing a final form feed at the end of the job. A lot of devices don't need this form feed and others do.

You didn't really say, but seeing this post is in the HPUX Networking area suggests that your coming from an HPUX server. If you are using HP JetAdmin software, there are several different drivers available for generic printer/plotter configurations. It's been a while, but I believe one of the plotter types may be your answer. The drivers themselves are nothing more than shell scripts. Also, make sure that you are using something more recent than the JetAdmin that comes on the HPUX applications disks (it's ancient). You can download the latest at http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpjetadmin1873_swen.html for 10.X or http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/hpjetadmin5788_swen.html for 11.X.
