Changing/switching tu0 and tu1

I'm running HP Tru64 UNIX 5.1B and 4.0D on different boxes. I have 2 NICs in each box and proprietary software that has a software license code that is tied to the MAC address of the card designated by the OS as tu0. Regardless of the OS (5.1B or 4.0D) that's running, there are times when I need to alter which card is recognized as tu0 by the OS. Is there any way to switch the 2 cards? I hope my question is clear.
If not, I'll be glad to explain further.
