Changing the block size of a disk.....

Hi All,

I have a customer who has 2 disks taken from a VA7410 & put them into a DS2405 direct connect to a server, the disks have come from the VA with a block size of 520Kb but the DS2405 & all its disks use a block size of 512Kb, as far as i know the 520Kb is just for VA.

Is there a way to format the disk again to a 512Kb block size?

Yes, there is a way. You need to use the jbodfmt command to do it. Have a look at this thread:

Specifically look at the 2nd to last response.

Re: Changing the block size of a disk.....

Just to add an information (for anyone reading this):

The VA7xx0 arrays are using 520 blocks to store additional information. A direct connected disk must have 512 blocks, otherwise the disk looks like a bad one.

The commandview SDM software (current is 1.09.02) can manage VAs and JBODs and is the preferred tool to make any configuration, like formatting, firmware updates and so on for supported devices.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
