OS: HP-UX 11i v2
CIFS: client A.02.02.02
I have a cifsclientd that's been running since March 28, 2011. The size used, as shown by 'ps -efl' has grown to 226516 4k pages. I've been asked if it would be safe to 'cifsclient restart', to hopefully reduce the memory usage. I've not been able to find a definitive answer in documentation.
Can I restart cifsclientd WITHOUT unmounting all the CIFS shares that are currently mounted, and WITHOUT forcing all the currently connected users to re-cifslogin?
I guess what I'm wondering is if the cifsclientd is only used to establish a login or mount, or is it required to maintain an existing one?
Thanks for any assistance.
Richard

SolutionJust tried it with A.02.02.01 on 11.23:
# cifsclient restart Unmounting CIFS filesystems... UNIX: Device busy umount: return error 1. Error unmounting /mountpoint. CIFS Client not shut down. The CIFS Client is up; process id 2145, started Apr 28
Computer says no... ;-)

Re: CIFS client restart question
Thanks much, sir.
Must be nice to have systems you can do that kind of spur-of-the-moment testing on.
