CIFS does not see XP exported FS

Hello Admins
Faced a strange problem recently on 11.0
I CIFS mount a file system from XP. Permissions are wide open for test. I can see files using root account. However the whole mount point is not visible for regular users.
Any ideas why.

Thanks,
Oleg

Re: CIFS does not see XP exported FS

Hi Oleg,

have you tried the very new release (1.09 I guess) of CIFS/9000 already?
Berlene has mentioned it here:

Re: CIFS does not see XP exported FS

Not yet.
I have:
CIFS-Client A.01.06 HP CIFS/9000 Client
CIFS-Development A.01.06 CIFS/9000 server source code files
CIFS-Server A.01.06 CIFS/9000 (Samba) File and Print Services

Is this a bug of 01.06?

Re: CIFS does not see XP exported FS

A.01.06 is a rather older version, and A.01.09 will be released sometime this month.

Root is probably getting authenticated when you mount the file system, so you can see the files. You need to make sure that the non-root users are doing a cifslogin command to get authenticated by the XP machine.

and if that doesn't work,
Set debug to 10 and try to access as non-root user. Then check the logs.

you can tell by doing a cifslist -A and see if the user is listed as having been authenticated.

Set debug to 10 and try to access as non-root user. Then check the logs.

Re: CIFS does not see XP exported FS

Installed version A.1.0.8.
The same thing if mounted by root as on A.1.0.6.

New concern:
if I do cifslogin to XP from my HP box - it will give read only access for the user who is doing cifslogin. All files reported to be owned by this user.
if I do cifslogin from another user - it will also give read only access to XP files and ownership reported is this user.
Please note, in both cases sessions were kept open, however ownerships reported are for each user.
In both cases I have entered blabla as a password (not real password on my XP) and still got in.

Bug or feature ? ;)

Thanks for prompt replies.
