CIFS / SaMBa Configuation

I would like to configure pass-through authentication or in other words never prompted for a password when attempting to connect a SMB share on an HP or Linux server. Can anyone help me get through the configuration of this?

Johan-

I think that you have to set up server-level security. this uses a seperate SMB password server. when a share is accessed, samba validates the user and then attempts to validate the password through the password server. you can find a little about it in the O'reilly book

www.samba.org has good docs on doing this as well. It's been a while, but as I recall it was only 2 entries in the config file... SECURITY=server, and ... uh, I forget the other... but it specifies the name of the password server.

Good luck!

Johan,

If you are working with a Windows NT (or 2000) Domain, you can use Security=Domain and the PDC will handle authentication.
