CIFS upgrade to new

Right now I have the HPUX server with the version B.11.11 , currently installed CIFS

CIFS-Client A.01.08 HP CIFS/9000 Client
CIFS-Development A.01.08 CIFS/9000 server source code files
CIFS-Server A.01.08 CIFS/9000 (Samba) File and Print Services

I want to go for the new version of CIFS(both client & server ) , let me know the latest version which my unix version support and the link were i found the details , also let me know what needs to do to preserve the existing CIFS settings & configuration !! , will the existing setup will work once upgraded to new version or need to configure again....

Re: CIFS upgrade to new

Hi,

from below url you can download cifs server and client depot.
http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/searchProducts.do

in search enter cifs

Normal upgrading should not affect current config setting however you can always keep the backup copy of smb.conf

Re: CIFS upgrade to new

Hi,

You can upgrade the server and client online.

But for safer side take backup of smb.conf file and stop the services during upgrade.

CIFS Server won't require reboot whereas client need reboot of the server.

Best wishes,

Ganesh.

Re: CIFS upgrade to new

Shalom,

Best practice is to remove the old version with swremove and swinstall the new.

With CIFS I've been able to get away frequently with bypassing that first step.

Some new features in smb.conf but as I recall the old configuration file was compatible with the new.
