CIFS9000 server & client
I have a customer who is switching to native mode Win2K Active Directory (and not aiming to keep NT4.0 domains in mixed-mode unless they can help it).
I have a few Samba instances dotted around, and in particular one install of CIFS/9000 where I also use the Client to map NT shares to the HP-UX server.
I have A.01.08 installed (2.2.8) and I'd rather roll-out Samba 3.0 before the big week.
Anyone any ideas when the "HP'd" release of CIFS9000 with Samba 3.0 will (or if) be rolled-out?
I can of course compile the source, but I have just one HP-UX server, which is a production box, and I don't like to have to stick a compiler unnecessarily on a 'prod box. In addition, a compile of Samba 3.0 on HP-UX 11i seems a little fraught (judging by the URL references I can find).
The current version of CIFS/9000 available from HP is A.01.10 (2.2.8a);
http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=CIFSTP22
Thanks
Brendan

Re: CIFS9000 server & client
Hi Brendan,
I believe you're in for a wait - maybe a month or two because Samba just released 3.0 only a week or two ago. It will take HP a while to package & test it before they release it.
Rgds,
Jeff

Re: CIFS9000 server & client
If you want samba 3, you are going to have to download it and compile it. http://www.samba.org
HP is not fast at getting out Samba releases and my sources say it could be weeks or months before Samba 3 shows up in depot form.
There are very good reasons for this like testing and security.
Your best bet is to install the latest release of CIFS/9000.
I've been using the product for a while now and its very stable and secure.

Re: CIFS9000 server & client
Jeff, Steven,
Thanks for the replies.
A month or two's wait for a genuine CIFS9000 update from HP-UX is bearable, and the AD isn't going to be rolled-out until just before Xmas. I just have no desire to install a compiler on the production box just to compile the source.
I have got a test AIX server and a binary distribution is available from http://www.bullfreeware.com, which I'll use to test 3.0.
Regards
Bren
