Cleaning up patch-bundles
On our test D370 with HP-UX I've installed a patch-bundle. When I list the patches installed I see a low of patches which I don't really seem to need on our larger K370 system running Oracle 8.0.5. My questions are as follows:
a) Is there a way to remove al non-necessary patches from your system and
b) Would this be convenient to do or is it more wise to just leave all patches as installed

Re: Cleaning up patch-bundles
I'd do two things if you want to reclaim space:
1) 'swremove' products you don't need.
2) run 'cleanup' to regain /var space.
See the man pages.

Re: Cleaning up patch-bundles
But if you are going to remove any patches, you will need to do your homework on them. Make sure they are not involved in a dependency with another patch. My feeling as always been...if the patch has been on the system awhile and no problems-then I leave it there. Also, I only run cleanup after I've let patches sit for awhile to make sure everything looks good, because depending on the cleanup options you take...you may not be able to remove a patch later. So, by all means run a cleanup to regain space...but select the options to fit your needs.
...and it's great to finally be able to respond to one of your posts !

Re: Cleaning up patch-bundles
If you have hp-ux 11.X, read the following document:
http://www.docs.hp.com/hpux/pdf/B3782-90829.pdf
- When running cleanup -f under hp-ux 10.20, it will cleanup the patch directory(/var/adm/sw/patch). So before running it make a tar backup of this directory.
- Swremove will remove the patch from your system, this will remove the binary and/or Library files etc.
So what do you really want?
