Hi Raf,

I agree with James that a port number does not have to be in /etc/services file but if we put it in /etc/services file and give it a name it will make it easier for us to use and remember.

Name is always easy to remember and makes sense for example I do not think many people can tell what website 192.151.52.242 is but if we use its name forums1.itrc.hp.com we all know that this is one of the HP ITRC website.

This works for port number as well, I can remember some commonly used port numbers like 23(telnet), 53(DNS), 80(HTTP), 20 21(ftp) but I still think name is much easier to remember.
