Client crashing after creating 'Boot Client' using Ignite

Hello everybody!

I'm newbi using ignite and I think I did it quite bad this time! I have a ignite server machine and an L-class machine.
I tried to create a "boot Client" in my Ignite Server, but it went badly wrong. The client machine shutdown but never boot back again, this is the messages I've got:

nfs mount: get_fh: 199.199.100.99::RPC:program not registered
nfs mount:retrying for:/var/opt/ignite/clients after 5 seconds
nfs mount: giving up on: /var/opt/ignite/clients
NOTE: NFS mount (/sbin/fs/nfs/mount -orw 199.199.100.99: /var/opt/ignite/clients /var/opt/ignite/clients) failed
*using client directory:/var/opt/ignite/clients/0x0030
ERROR:Could not mount the client specific directory from server.
Control of the installation can not be done from the server until the problem is fixed and the client is allowed to mount the directory: "/var/opt/ignite/clients" from the server with read/write permissions.

The directory is exported but I think is trying to boot from the server, and there is nothing there! (I did not create any bundle, and I think this is the mistake).
Now, I would like to restore my boot files, but I dont understand what option or procedure should I take in the HP-UX network System Recovery main Manu.

Thanks for any help

Re: Client crashing after creating 'Boot Client' using Ignite

Well, finally I manage to boot my box back, using an alternative boot disk (I forgot to tell you I had mirroring disks).

Anyway I still don't know why my system went so wrong... If anybody can enlighten me with an explanation, I would appreciate it.

I'm wondering if my primary boot disk is ok or I will need to do something to reinstated to its original condition.

Re: Client crashing after creating 'Boot Client' using Ignite

what is the content of /etc/exports

what is the result of exportfs -av

in any case, yes you do need to create at least one golden image or system archive before booting!

You can try to interrupt the client boot.
10 seconds to press a key at console;
Command Menu : Main Menu > BO PRI
Interact with IPL ? Y
ISL> hpux -is -lm

.... wait ...

see if you get a prompt.

#

if you do, you can try a lifcp..

It works for me (tm)

Re: Client crashing after creating 'Boot Client' using Ignite

I guess it'd be a good idea to make a backup now... although as it could get messy with multiple boot disks and one messed up, I'd recommend to call your support contact..

ie you don't want your backup to backup the screwed up disk, and you don't want to make a mistake resync'ing your mirrors.

Re: Client crashing after creating 'Boot Client' using Ignite

Hi Bill!

The /etc/exports (server)has:
/var/opt/ignite/clients -access=hpprod18, root=hpprod18,anon=2

I've got this when I run exportfs -av:
re-exported /var/opt/ignite/clients

But probably at this point is irrelevant...

Thanks anyway, it is nicer when you feel there somebody trying to help! I'm gonna call the support!

Ciao!
