clone bootable harddisk on work station for using another ws

Hello

One of my friend who is on a remote locagtion is tying to clone a bootable hard disk on a old HP workstation. The work station does not have a tape drive or a cd-rom.

No lan also.

He want to to CLONE the disk to another new disk, then he will install the new cloned disk on a different work station with the same setup. What are the easy and correct options. He is very basic on Unix, even the normal commands, we have to spell him. I can only give instructions on the phone. It is an old hp-ux 10.20 ws.

What are the options with the dd.

Please advise.

Thanks
Rasheed.

Options would be:

dd if=/dev/rdsk/cXtXdX of=/dev/rdsk/cYtYdY bs=1024k

Be sure to use the raw device and specify a large block size or it will take forever.

Hi Pete,

What are the commands on the destination system to recognize the dd-ied disk.
Does the boot portion comes with it or the lif area we have to manually create (mkboot/lifcp, etc). Please elaborate, if possible, step-by-step.

thanks.

Hi Pete,
Does not help Clay's smg either. It is only for DD.

As I am going for a long vacation I close this thread.

Thanks for all.
