Cloning rx5670 with Ignite 5.0
Hi,
I have an rx5670 running HP-UX 11.23 with Ignite 5.0.
I want to clone this machine using make_tape_recovery. Target will be another rx5670.
Does any body have experience with that exact scenario? Any gotchas or so?
I have done a lot of cloning on PA-RISC, so I do know the basics, but that would be the first Itanium.
Regards,
Bernhard

Re: Cloning rx5670 with Ignite 5.0
Hello Bernhard,
The best thing to do is create a golden_image -- you do this with the make_sys_image command -- take a look at the man page on it. It's less system specific than the make_tape_recovery.
Regards,
dbk.

Re: Cloning rx5670 with Ignite 5.0
I will be interested in hearing how it goes. I am installing 11.23 tomorrow and will see it it works with the new Ignite. HPUX 11.22 and Ignite B.4.4.30 could not create a bootable tape. It needed a special CD from HP to boot and then the Ignite tape could be used for the rest of the install/recovery. Good Luck.

Re: Cloning rx5670 with Ignite 5.0
Hi all,
so here is the result:
1) You cannot boot an Itanium machine from tape, no way. :-(
2) You can boot via network or from an Install DVD, *if* the HW scan detects a tape, after selecting "Install HP-UX" you get the choices:
- Install from DVD
- Boot from DVD/Recover from Tape
Selecting the second option will make the system carry on with usual tape recovery :-)

Bernhard
