What is the difference between veritas clustered file system and serviceguard clustered file system ?
Is clustered file system a must for heartbeat ?
Thanks,

SolutionVeritas Cluster Filesystem allows multiple nodes in the cluster to read/write the filesystem data at a time. All the I/Os from multiple hosts are handled "smartly" by the filesystem thus maintaining data consistanecy.
In MC/SG 2-node cluster, the filesystem is shared. But only one host take the ownership of the filesystem volume and do filesystem I/O. In this case, the other node can't do I/O against the filesystem for sack of maintaining data consistency.
The other node can only take ownership if it is not already owned.
Heartbeat is basically used to communicate with clustered nodes and this communication is must in cluster.
Shared filesystem or "clusterd" file system forms an integral part of the cluster besides heartbeat communication.

Re: clustered file system
Clustered file system is the Veritas equivalent of Red Hat's GFS at a substantially higher price.
Serviceguard needs a heartbeat to function reliably. Your last question is difficult to understand, if you could elaborate it would be helpful.

Re: clustered file system
Veritas cluster file system (CFS) can be mounted read /write simultaneously in multiple nodes of cluster.Normal servce guard file system cannot mounted as read/write in multiple nodes at a time.Only one node can have RW access.
Veritas CFS is bundled wth new versions of service guard. That is Serviceguard A.11.17.0 which works with 11i V2.
