cmclconfd -p running periodically

We have an environment where we can't run MC/SG commands that invoke the cmclconfd to do any type of cluster polling. It's related to a rather large buffer cache (12.8 gb) and the file system semaphore contention. When we do, the priority queue goes to about 30 and user are unable to log in.

In the past, we've noticed that our HAO node initiated cmquercl commands that caused this problem. We've since shut that off and now have a documented case where the cmclconfd -p was running uninitiated by any sys admins (no cmcheckconf or cmapplyconf was run).

Last week we noticed a serious slow down on the system and saw a cmclconfd -p that was newly created and running for a few min. As soon as it went away the system returned to normal. Is this something that is kicked off by the MC/SG software occasionally? I don't believe it is since we haven't been noticing it on a regular basis.

Frank

Yes, this is something that is fired off by SG on a regular basis, for a short period of time.
On my system, I see it running every 60 seconds.

Re: cmclconfd -p running periodically

I see that now. During the time of the problem, that process ran for minutes, not seconds as it is now. Do you know what it's polling and what could cause it to run longer?

thanks,

Re: cmclconfd -p running periodically

Hi Frank,

I have verified on my cluster running UX11.00 and A.11.14, that ServiceGuard commands cause inetd to wake up "cmclconfd -p" for approximately 14 seconds.

I have also verified that this form of the cmclconfd daemon does NOT wake up spontaneously on my cluster as it does on yours.

Therefore, I believe your clusters have some external process that executes a ServiceGuard command in order to perform it's operations.
