cmviewcl - : Cannot view the cluster configuration

Hi ,

My cluster is running , packages are still up but cmviewcl says : Cannot view the cluster configuration.

Our primary DNS server is down now , I have changed the resolve conf and commenetd out this Primary and now resolution is happening tru secondary DNS server.

I can resolve all node names , 6 node cluster.

Aslo verified /etc/inetd.conf , did inetd -c
Still the cmviewcl is not working .

Any thoughts , the primary cause for this is DNS server problem happened .

thx,
bl.

Re: cmviewcl - : Cannot view the cluster configuration

change the address resolution to happen using FILES first in the nsswitch.conf then DNS as the secondary method. Then put your host names of the cluster on all members' /etc/hosts files. Actually this is the preferred method of cluster name resolution as it eliminates another point of failure, which is, as you have lived it : A DNS failure.

HTH

Re: cmviewcl - : Cannot view the cluster configuration

Regardless if your DNS came back or not, your cluster should NOT be dependent on it. Make sure you are using FILES, i.e., /etc/hosts for your internal cluster name resolution for maximum resiliency of the cluster.

After all, by clustering, you are eliminating or redicing points of failure. No need to introduce one by using DNS, which is outside the control of the cluster, whereas, files are under your control as they reside on the server itself.

Just my 2 more cents worth.
