codewords and update 11.00 to 11.11

Hi,

Reckon easy points again...

When you update your operating system from HP-UX 11.00 to HP-ux 11.11 do you have to get new codewords for software you were already using successfully on the ux11.00 version, for the software to work on the 11.11 version?

Re: codewords and update 11.00 to 11.11

Hi Maria,

If your upgrading, then no you don't need new codewords, as it's like doing a patch update. Many of the add-on applications are no different between 11 and 11i anyway. If your doing a new install, then you would need to get new codewords for the APP CD's in your possession. As a matter of course you should build this into your plan for doing at some stage anyway, just in case you wish to install/re-install something.

Re: codewords and update 11.00 to 11.11

To OS upgrade, cordword is not required.

Before upgrade do backup in preparation for disaster.
#make_recovery -Av
If you have several disk, After OS install(hpux 11i) on the volume group 0 (vg00) and then do vgimport other disk and mount, you can use vg01, vg02..

If you had cordword needed application (example, ANSI C, aC++, glance, MirrorDisk/UX ..) on hpux 11.0, you must purchase a license for hpux11i.

So, Mathios, you're saying that if I have upgraded ux 11.0 to ux 11i, and wish to continue using the same applications - glance plus, ansi C.., I do have to get new codewords. is that right? getting new license = getting new codewords?

Re: codewords and update 11.00 to 11.11

I am little skeptical about the answer I am giving you. But it also depends on the 11i OE you are going to upgrade to. If you install the Enterprise/Mission critical Operating environment then it also includes glance plus, mirrorux/dx and most of the other tools that you normally have installed in a typical production server.

But I tend to think you would have to reinstall the softwares and might as well need the codeward.

Why to go for a update ? - take an ignite backup and go for a clean cold install unless there are strong reasons for not to.

Re: codewords and update 11.00 to 11.11

Sundar, I have updated our ux11.00 to ux11i foundation OE.
We chose update because we had only one system to update; did not want to overwrite non-OS files; and had plenty of disk space. This was the suggestion made in the installation and update guide, so we went with that.

Re: codewords and update 11.00 to 11.11

Codewords are required for every CD that has locked applications or features. Licensing can sometimes be complicated (product, enhancment, new generation, support contracts, etc) but the bottom line is that you a new set of codewords for every new CD that you will use for upgrading/installing.
