SolutionThe primary advantage to a cold-install of 11.x in lieu of an upgrade from 10.20, is the virtual guarantee that it will work!
The collection experience of many folks here is that a 10.20-to-11.x *upgrade* has a high probability of failure.
A cold-installation allows you to specify new, sound filesystem sizes especially for '/', '/usr' and '/var' which are invariably too small.
A cold-installation obviates the need to dispose of old patches and provides a clean, sound IPD (Installed Products Database).
Regards!

Re: Cold Install HP-UX 11.0
The experts recommended to do Cold Install
to avoid many troubles /using Ignite/. Nevertheless the upgrade is also possible.
I have attached you a little doc-guide about
our upgrade. We try like test to do this on single disk - by creating first
boot/10.20/, then upgrade to 11.0. It is
not official doc, just an experience.
Regards.

Re: Cold Install HP-UX 11.0
Go to http://docs.hp.com/ and search "cold install"
A lot of specific cases are exposed in this search link:
